THERAPY DOG EVALUATION
CIC Therapy Dog Training Class Evaluation Page
This page is for those whose dogs have NOT taken CIC’s Foundational Skills or CIC’s CGC Class, but wish to proceed into CIC’s Therapy Dog training class.
Your dog will be evaluated by one of the CIC Trainers for the following technical skills:
Sit
Down
Stand (from sit or down position)
Stay (walk 20 feet away)
Recall (come to name)
Leave It
Place
Wait at doorways/polite entrances
Loose leash walking
Trick (your choice)
CIC’s Therapy Dog program is NOT based on perfection, if your dog has the foundation of the above skills, but cannot perform 100% they are still eligible to move into the Therapy Dog class. Most important is how you support your dog during the evaluation.
Your dog will also be evaluated for overall temperament, including friendliness and interest to the trainer, reaction to noises & distractions, reaction to another dog in the training ring (both dogs on leash, not interacting), and then overall engagement with you!
Dogs must be free of fear and/or aggression towards the trainer and the other dog during the evaluation. Body language that indicates fear and/or aggression include, but are not limited to, tail tucked between legs, trembling, showing teeth, growling, avoidance to perform skills or engage with trainer, barking & lunging.
By purchasing this evaluation, you understand that this is an evaluation only and does not guarantee that your dog will be eligible to enter CIC's Therapy Dog training class. Some dogs may not be ready for Therapy Dog class due to age, excitement, or skills, and may need additional time and training before moving into Therapy Dog class. If your dog does not pass the evaluation, our trainer will provide you with feedback for next steps.
If you have questions, please email Taylor.
After purchasing, please wait for an email or text from one of our trainers to schedule your evaluation on site at CIC. Responses typically occur within 48 hours of purchase.
